Brian
Thomas Littrell "Brian"
|
|
According to Howie, Brian is definately the group funnyman!
"He keeps us laughing," says Howie. The funny thing is
Brian's first exposure to music and performing was anything but
on the light side. Born on February 20, 1975, he spent his early
years in Lexington, Kentucky, singing at his local church, other
regional churches, revivals, and even weddings. |
What many don't know is that Brian feels he has a lot to thank
God for. You see as a young child he was very ill and didn't
even know it. "I was born with a heart murmur," he
confesses. "I have a hole in my heart. I lived the first
five years of my life with this hole in my heart and the doctors
didn't know."
It wasn't until a day
back in 1980 when he was playing around his Lexington, Kentucky,
home with his older brother Harold, that his parents found out

little boy was seriously ill! The boys were roughhousing
and Brian fell and cracked his head on a sidewalk. His parents
took him right to the Good Samaritan Hospital -- and then
complications set in. He got a blood infection. Brian explained,
"I had no chance of living whatsoever. The doctors were
telling my mother and father to go ahead and make the funeral
arrangements."
But then the
unexpected happened -- even while the doctors were predicting
the worst, Brian surprised everything and recovered completely!
"I had a great
childhood," Brian said in an online interview. "Since
I didn't become a Backstreet Boy before I was eighteen years
old, I had time to graduate from high school. If I hadn't gone
for music, I'd probably have gone to college."
But singing did enter
his life and Brian made a beeline for it. Though he is the first
to admit there were times he hit a speed bump or two. Like the
time he let his comic side take over his singing side. "I
was in the play Grease in high school," he told a
Scholastic magazines writer. "I was one of the greasers. I
wasn't the main one -- I was Roger. And I was one of the
T-Birds...There was a scene where I get my pants pulled off on
stage and show
my boxers...It was kind of dorky, but I thought it would be cool
and outrageous for the high school play. I'll never forget it --
I've got a big, long video and I enjoy watching it every so
often!"
When Brian got his cousin Kevin's call about the audition for
the Backstreet Boys, he knew it was right. And when he met A.J.,
Howie, and Nick, he felt right at home. Being a part of BSB gave
him a chance to do something he'd wanted to do ever since he was
five years old and recovered from his near-fatal illness.
"I think that's why God gave me the gift to sing," he
told BOP! "So I can bless other people's lives." |
