MTV News: What's
going on here today? What's your role?
Jessica Simpson:
We're doing a photo shoot for YM. I really feel privileged to be a part
of it, with so many talented people here.
MTV: How has it
been, going into the final leg of the tour? Have your expectations about
what touring means changed at all?
JS: It's really
exhausting, but I love to perform in front of 20,000 people every night.
How could you mess with that? I just love it. I'll admit to you that I'm
really tired. But it's always re-energizing, refreshing, when I get up
there and I hear the whole crowd screaming, that makes everything worth
it. All the hard work is definitely worth it.
MTV: What's the best memory you have from the Ricky Martin tour? The best story you have to tell?
JS: Well, the best story is definitely the most embarrassing
story, and that was at Madison Square Garden, when my leather pants
split in the back. It was really, really embarrassing. I started
backing up off the stage, and I told my dancers to take over, and
people were flashing their cameras. Then my mom comes running
backstage, and I'm just laying there crying. I didn't know what to
do, and she takes off her jeans and she puts them on me like any
good mother would, and I go back out there and I sing my ballad and
then I get a standing ovation. That made it worthwhile. Kind of.
MTV: Are you a fan of Ricky's?
JS: I'm a huge fan of Ricky's, and Enrique Iglesias, and so many
others. I'm a huge fan of all Latin music. I think it's great. I
love the beats, and the fans are so into the music. It's all about
the music, you know. It's not about an image thing, it's about
feeling the music and feeling the beats and I love that. You know,
I'm used to being on tour with 98 Degrees, and the Ricky Martin tour
was kind of a different market, but surprisingly the fans have been
really, really great, and energetic. And I'm so happy and thrilled
that every night they've been accepting me the way that they have.
MTV: For New Year's Eve, 98 Degrees is going to be performing in
MTV's studios. Are you going to be with them?
JS:Yes, I'm going to be at the MTV New Year's party, definitely.
I can't wait. It's going to be a blast.
MTV: Are you going to perform?
JS: Oh, I don't know. Maybe. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
MTV:Any other plans for that night?
JS: No, not really. Just a kiss at midnight will do me good.
MTV: What's coming up for you?
JS: I actually don't know my next single yet. I don't know which
song it's going to be. It's a choice between an up-tempo song and a
ballad, whichever one the label wants to go with. I'm happy with
either one of them. I love both the songs, so...
MTV: Thinking about any concepts for new videos?
JS: Because I've been touring so much, and been so busy, I
haven't had time to think about anything, but we'll see.
MTV: What's the first thing you're going to do when you get off
tour?
JS: I'm going to go home to Texas, and I'll spend time with my
family. Eat a lot of Southern food, chicken fried steak, and just
hang out with my friends and be me. Be a regular girl for about
three weeks. I'm really, really looking forward to that.
Interview
with vindia.com
about her relationship with Nick of 98 Degrees
(taken from 98degrees.org)
Your relationship
with Nick is well documented. How comforting is it to have a partner in
the same industry?
It is a beautiful thing
because Nick and I have the same talents, the same dreams, we aspire for
the same things. So it is the most amazing thing in our relationship
just because we can relate to each other that much better and know
exactly what the other is going through. Our duet 'Where you are' is
actually my favorite song on the album and it was definitely the best
experience I had on the album.
Do you talk to
each other a lot about your career?
Definitely. About 60
per cent of our conversations are about the stress of our careers,
helping each other through difficult situations, because it is not
always an easy ride. There are a lot of speed bumps, big speed bumps.
Is there a
confrontation between him and you?
We are not
competitive at all. He always tells me that he likes my career than his
own. I think because I am a solo artist and he performs in a group. I
think when you perform in a group, it is much more difficult because
everyone has their own opinions and stuff, but we are very supportive of
each other. I want the best for him and he wants the best for me.
You had a
single with Nick. What was it like working with him?
It was a
lot of fun. It was recorded on two days, one day when I was with him and
one day when I wasn't. That itself took two months. It was weird because
we had to keep going back and changing stuff, because our voices kept
maturing and stuff. That was four months into our relationship. And the
sparks are still flying. So we are very much in love.
What part did
he bring to the song?
He is one
of the writers. He is a very talented songwriter and he wrote the bridge
of the song where he comes as the angel. I was actually my idea to make
the song a duet and have him come as the angel. But I think it is really
inspiring to people who have lost someone they love, so he heard me out
on that and he wrote to it.
