Lance Bass Comes Out With The Truth: He's Gay

'The thing is, I'm not ashamed,' Bass told People magazine in the issue that comes out on Friday. 'I don't think it's wrong. 'I'm not devastated going through this. I'm more liberated and happy than I've been in my whole life. I'm just happy.' Rumours about Bass' sexuality have been around since *NSYNC ruled radio, but speculation increased again in recent months when he was repeatedly seen with 32-year-old former Air Force captain, gay rights activist, model, The Amazing Race 4 winner, actor, writer and television show host, Reichen Lehmkuhl. Lehmkuhl responded to the media in April by posting on his website that, 'as for the rumors about me and Lance, please continue to remind people that things that I do not discuss anymore, such as the private and personal relationships that I have, are just that — private — unless I choose to open up with details to my family and close friends for reasons of support and love.' Bass, 27, told People that the rumours were starting to affect his 'daily life,' which prompted his revelation that he's in a 'very stable' relationship with Lehmkuhl. 'I'm at peace with my family, my friends, myself and God, so there's nothing else that I worry about.' Bass, who dated women until he was 22, felt that coming out would hurt *NSYNC when the boy band were at their peak. 'I had four other guys' careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said [that I was gay], it would overpower everything.' While Bass' former music mates have been supportive, his family was another story. His sister cried when he told her he was gay and his mother 'broke down' because she found out through the internet. His father was concerned about AIDS and quoted statistics about homosexual relationships not lasting, said the aspiring actor. Bass, who at one point underwent cosmonaut training in Russia and tried to raise enough money to go into space, is developing a sitcom pilot with former *NSYNCer Joey Fatone. The singer is desperate to break into theatre after impressing with his first steps into movie acting - KEVIN SPACEY has already endorsed his acting credentials after the pair co-starred in upcoming film EDISON. According to reports, Spacey - artistic director at the city's Old Vic Theatre - has offered Timberlake a role in his production of ARTHUR MILLER's RESURRECTION BLUES, which he has already hired acclaimed filmmaker ROBERT ALTMAN to direct. A source tells British newspaper The Sun, 'Justin has been looking for a chance to have a go at a theatre role. It fits in with his bigger plans.' According to reports, Timberlake and girlfriend CAMERON DIAZ will rent a house in London, where the actress has filming commitments next year. The source adds, 'The pair have decided to turn it into a foreign adventure. They are keen to absorb as much British culture as possible while they are here.'

Justin Timberlake to Launch Clothing Line In Fall

Timberlake is launching the line, called William Rast, with his best friend, Trace Ayala, and Danny Guez, who has worked with hip hop stars Eve and Bow Wow on their respective apparel lines. The name is a combination of the first name of Timberlake's grandfather, William, and the last name of Ayala's grandfather, Rast. The singer/actor (Timberlake will star in Edison with Morgan Freeman this fall) worked with designer Juan Cervantes to create a collection described as a bit of country with a dash of Hollywood, to reflect Timberlake’s southern roots. The 60-piece line, which includes jeans, T-shirts, polo shirts, cashmere sweaters, corduroy blazers and outerwear for both men and women, was inspired by some of Timberlake’s own personal designer favourites such as Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen and Tom Ford of Gucci. The big emphasis seems to be on the jeans, which will come in three fits for women and four for men, with two fabrications and three washes. The upscale jeans will feature metal-trimmed wooden buttons for the ladies and leather buttons for men. Both will have drop pockets with a “W” logo on the back, so it will be no secret who designed them. Buyers will see the merchandise next week while the line is expected to hit Bloomingdale’s and high-end boutiques like Fred Segal, Kitson, and Atrium on November 3. If the launch goes well, William Rast will expand to include headwear, intimate apparel, and men’s suits. Timberlake and his team also have their eyes on one day opening their own stores, starting in Memphis and Timberlake’s hometown of Millington, Tenn.

The 24-year-old has been writing songs with long-time friend Matt Morris, who co-wrote five songs on Christina Aguilera's 'Stripped' album. Morris says the pair have written at least an album's worth of songs but since the subject matter is so personal, discussing them 'should be reserved for close friends and therapists'. The new album is expected in 2006 and will mark a return to music for the star who in recent months has filmed two movies, the thriller 'Edison' co-starring Kevin Spacey and 'Alpha Dog' co-starring Bruce Willis.

Singleton says, 'I think Justin is going to be a huge movie star. He's a southern boy playing a southern boy. His heart and soul is in this role. I've told him what I tell every musician I cast in my films, 'Take it seriously and attack the role with everything you've got.'' And the man who helped launch ANDRE 3000, ICE CUBE, LUDACRIS and JANET JACKSON's movie careers has his eyes on another hip-hop star as a future film star. He says, 'I like TI. He's got what it takes, and I'd love to work with 50 CENT. I think he's gonna blow people away when he comes out with GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN' (new JIM SHERIDAN film). I met with him for dinner recently and he's got a good attitude.' The fledgling thespian is in discussions to co-star in 'Hustle & Flow' director Craig Brewer's 'Black Snake Moan,' according to The Hollywood Reporter. If Justin ends up signing on for the project, he'll be working alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci. Of course, Justin's no tenderfoot in front of the camera. In the forthcoming 'Alpha Dog,' Timberlake flaunts his acting chops as a fictional member of a drug gang led by Jesse James Hollywood, who orchestrated the kidnapping and brutal murder of a 15-year-old in August 2000; the film stars box-office biggies Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone (see 'Justin Timberlake To Begin His Life Of Crime Next Week'). He also stars alongside Kevin Spacey, Morgan Freeman and LL Cool J in 'Edison' (see 'Justin Timberlake Goes To Court To Prep For Film Role'), as a young journalist who uncovers an elite unit of corrupt cops. And he's signed on to voice a young King Arthur in the third installment of the 'Shrek' franchise (see 'Justin Timberlake Will Learn His Lesson In 'Shrek 3' '). The plot of 'Black Snake Moan' revolves around a nymphomaniac (Ricci) who enlists an older bluesman (Jackson) to help 'cure' her disorder. Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake Settle Harassment Case

SAUL LAZO and JOSE GONZALEZ alleged that the couple taunted and threatened them before Diaz beat Lazo and took his camera. The alleged attack was caught on camera by another snapper, who sold his pictures to American magazine US WEEKLY. Diaz later handed Lazo's camera over to police, insisting she only took it so she could find out who the snapper was. The photographers blasted allegations from Diaz and Timberlake's publicists that they harassed the couple and jumped out of bushes on them in a bid to stir up an angry reaction, insisting they stood more than 10 feet (three metres) away from them on public property the whole time. The photographers claim they suffered emotional distress and physical harm. Representatives for Timberlake and Diaz have yet to comment.
